Parsons and Graham
Dunne are on at
M19, Levenshulme, Manchester on Thurs 30 April 2009. Tickets
are £5 in advance, £6 on door, available from the
venue 0161 224 8135. Support will be ably provided by up-and-coming
trad band Shake
the Barley from Manchester. Niamh
Parsons has been compared to Dolores Keane, June Tabor and
Sandy Denny. The great Scottish balladeer Archie Fisher said
of Niamh, "a songstress like her comes along once or twice
in a generation." Not to be missed. |
Sharon
Shannon and her big band are touring
the UK in April 2009. The dates are as follows 16 April
in Inverness, 17 April in Edinburgh, 18 April in London and
the 19th at The
Manchester Academy 2. Box Office 0161 832 1111. The Manchester
date will feature toothless wonder Shane MacGowan as guest.

Ireland Music Awards 2009. |

Michael
McGoldrick Big Band are at The
Met in Bury on Sat 30 May. They are also on at the
Gosport and Fareham Easter Festival on Sun 12 April.

Cara
Dillon is performing at The
Lowry, Salford on Sun 28 June. Cara released her fourth
album 'Hill
of Thieves' on 26 Jan '09. Cara has won many awards including
BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and a Meteor Award. The Guardian describes
her as
'One of Ireland's great singers'. |

Casey ex-Solas is at The
Met on Wed 29 April. She has recently released her fifth
solo album; "Ships in the Forest" produced by Donald
Shaw. |
The
Big Whistle Weekend takes place at The
Met, Bury from 7-9th May 2009. The line-up includes Battlefield

Manchester
Irish Festival takes place in March 2009 in various venues
around Manchester Photos from Liverpool Irish Festival 2008
can be found here.
The festival took place last October. Sadly the trad content
of Manchester's festival has been steadily declining in quantity
and quality every year. |
Christy
Moore appears at Manchester's Bridgewater
Hall on 28 and 29 May 2009. Also at the same venue is Acoustic
Archery on Mon 25 May, featuring Tony McManus on guitar, along
with Andy McKee and Johnny Dickinson. |

History Month is a series of Irish cultural events taking
place in and around Leeds in collaboration with Irish
Arts Foundation based in Leeds. |
The
Eagle Music Shop are presenting a Banjo
and Guitar Showcase on 28 March, featuring the Kruger
Brothers (bluegrass from North Carolina) in concert. Also
there will be Greg and Janet Deering showcasing their banjos.
The event takes place from 1030am until 11pm at The North Light
Gallery (near the shop), which is in Huddersfield. |
The
Full Set is a great traditional Irish music TV programme
from RTE, now in it's 2nd series. The guests in the 2nd
programme were Mike
McGoldrick and Dezi Donnelly. You can also listen to other
ITM radio programmes from RTE such as The
Late Session and Ceili
House. |

The
World Bodhrán Championships will be held in Milltown,
County Kerry over the June bank holiday weekend, from May 29th
to June 1st 2009. This is a real event. |
