Musicians

There are too many trad musicians in the North West region of note to mention here. Michael McGoldrick, Dezi Donnelly, John Joe Kelly from Flook, the Farrells, Andrew Dinan, Brendan Dempsey, Grace Kelly, Emma Sweeney and not forgetting the Liverpool Ceili Band, are just some of the extraordinary talents. Below is a small selection of some of the musicians/groups playing traditional Irish music in the area. More available in the photo gallery

Ker Brise are: Martin Dunne (flute), Kate Moran (fiddle), Doug Briggs (button accordion), Pat O'Reilly (bouzouki). Formed specifically to play Breton music. The picture shows ex-member Frances O'Rourke on fiddle.

LongNote are: Tony Trundle: fiddle, vocals, David Lim: uilleann pipes, whistle, Paul Callick: guitar, piano. In 1997, LongNote formed from playing together at Irish sessions in Manchester. Piper David is also one of the organisers of the North West Pipers who have regular meetings in Manchester.

Mat Walklate plays Harmonica and Flute which is also the name of his recent solo album. Mat also organises harmonica shindigs twice a year for enthusiasts to get together.

Mat works with Seamus "Skirm" Curley and Anthony Haller in the band The Gallery and is also a member of the Shannagh Ceili Band.

Brothers Eamon (left) and Terry Coyne (right) from Liverpool both have released solo albums. Eamon's "Liverpool Connection" and Terry's "The Other Side" are available from Custys Music.
